We saw that the MTA posted a fascinating set of photos to their Flickr account of the workers bringing trains to the Rockaways. This is their official description for the photos:

On November 6, 2012, employees from MTA New York City Transit loaded subway cars onto flatbed trucks for transportation to the Rockaway Peninsula. The cars will be used to create shuttle trains that will operate on the A Line in the Rockaways until full service can be restored.

 As we mentioned before, the Broad Channel A station was wrecked by Hurricane Sandy, and will need to be rebuilt, so it will be closed for months. But there’s still viable and working track on the Rockaway peninsula itself, so the MTA brought out some trains to put on those tracks so that people can get around on the peninsula. These trains will take riders to shuttle buses to get them through Jamaica Bay and to the Howard Beach station and into the rest of the city, according to Gothamist.
