Last Fall, LIC was faced with no weekend 7 train service from Queensboro Plaza into the city for over two months – and it looks like a similar situation is happening again this Fall, starting on this Friday night at 11:45pm. The weekends when there will be no 7 train service from Queensboro Plaza into Manhattan are as follows:
Oct 5-8
Oct 19-22
Oct 26-29
Nov 9-12
Nov 16-19
It looks like the weekends of October 12 -14 and November 2-4 have been spared. That said, we will also also see suspended train service from 11:45pm Monday (10/22) to 5am Tuesday (10/23).
Why are they halting 7 train service for so many weekends? Here’s why, according to the MTA:
• To install a new Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) signal system.
• Critical track, signal, and infrastructure work in the Steinway Tunnel, which links Queens and Manhattan.
• Significant improvements to the station environment.
Options to get into Manhattan are the E/R at Queens Plaza and the N at Queensboro Plaza, as well as the F train by the Queensbridge Houses on 21st Street. Still, many in LIC find this kind of train disruption to be an inconvenience. But we’ve been warned, unlike the SNAFU that occurred last weekend when the 7 train suddenly had a power outage.
