W-train

When the MTA cut subway in bus service in 2010, Queens was particularly hard hit. It lost the W train and the QM22 express bus along with 14 other bus routes. The MTA saved about $100 million a year. Since then it has been slowly restoring some of the services it cut but has not returned to pre-2010 levels of spending. State Senator Michael Gianaris says that Western Queens has not seen any of its services restored and given the growing population in the area, increased services are necessary. He told the Queens Gazette: “’For the second time, the MTA has seen fit to restore service across the city but has ignored Western Queens. The MTA’s drastic cuts in 2010 hit our area particularly hard, and since then, Western Queens has continued its dramatic growth as home to New York’s hottest neighborhoods.’” Its unclear if the MTA plans to restore any of these services or address the ongoing complaints about service interruptions on the 7, N and Q lines. How are the transit services in your area?
