G Train

The evening wait for the G train, which runs between Brooklyn and Queens, may be slightly less interminable in the near future. In January state senators Daniel Squadron and Martin Malavé Dilan pushed the MTA to conduct a review of the numerous problems on the line. Today they announced the results of the review which are likely to result in some significant changes. G train service will be increased by 25 percent between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Trains will run in more even intervals so they are not bunched up resulting in very long waits or very short waits. Though the MTA will not be adding more cars to trains, it will create well-marked stopping zones on the platform so riders no longer find themselves unwittingly waiting in the wrong part of the station when the train arrives. “Now G train riders will be en route to much-needed relief that may one day lead to the G meaning great,” said Senator Squadron in a release. As with all things MTA, changes will not be immediate. More trains are not expected to be up and running unit next summer.
