Goodbye, Thai Pavilion in Astoria

We learned that Thai Pavilion, a much loved Thai restaurant on 30th Avenue that has been in the neighborhood for years, has closed its doors. They do have a second location a couple miles away, but it has never come close to the quality of the 30th Avenue Thai Pavilion. They posted a note on the restaurant door the other day:
“We will be closing down this restaurant location permanently on the 16th 2012. Please follow us at the new location on 23-92 21st and want to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support. God bless.”
Perhaps this means that this staff will help to make the 21st Street location become more delicious (it could use some help).
This location on 30th Avenue is just at the eastern edge of the main retail strip. Whoever moves in may want to do some work – the last job that was done at that space was back in 2000 – 12 years ago. We imagine it could use some updating. We’ll keep an eye on it.
