Waste Diversions Sculpture and Collage From New York’s Waste Stream – This installation at the Materials for the Arts gallery in Long Island City uses unneeded objects from businesses and individuals, and transforms these items into sculptures and collages. It is fascinating to see items we don’t give a second thought to, transformed into art.

dEMO’s Bears – These brightly-colored, neon glass teddy bears of varying sizes, created by Spanish artist dEMO (who also installed the bears at the 2010 Venice Biennial), are scattered all throughout Flushing’s Sky View Center shopping mall. This Friday is the last day to see these bears.

Nightfall Sessions with Paolo Mojo – Expect a breathless night at this electronic dance music party at LIC’s Z Hotel rooftop, where London-based DJ Paolo Mojo will spin an energetic mix of house, trance, and techno. The party starts at 9pm, and is strictly 21-and-up. The guest list closes at 1am that night, so get advance tickets here.

Animation – This weekend is also the last time to see this installation at Flushing’s New York Hall of Science, celebrating and delving into the art of animation. The Cartoon Network-sponsored exhibition features larger-than-life graphics of popular characters like “Dexter’s Laboratory” and “Ben 10,” as well as screening clips from classics like “the Flintstones” and “Scooby Doo.” It is the most hands-on kids’ museum in the city, so bring the kids to play with their favorite cartoon characters.
