For some reason, we’d missed this tower going up at 120 South 8th Street in South Williamsburg until last weekend. Which is hard to believe, since it’s going to be a 66-unit, 20-story building. The developer purchased the site in 2005 for $6,850,000. So far, it looks relatively unoffensive. GMAP P*Shark DOB

  1. Neglecting other costs, $6,850,000/66 units = $104K/unit on about a 30’x40′ footprint. What’s the construction cost per square foot on your typical condo project?

  2. Unoffensive in a 16-stories-taller-than-anything-around-it sort of way?!

This was the site of an old and pretty messed up house that the 4 Boro Preservation group tried to have landmarked. I think the claim was that it was a Federal house, which it might have started out life as. You probably have a post on that somewhere in the archives.
