The first phase of The Edge is all fleshed out at this point. The affordable housing, 347 units of it, is in the foreground and the 575 fancy apartments are in the tower at the rear overlooking the water. According to a recent post on Curbed (which has some great photos taken from the waterfront side), the developer is shooting to have all 922 units finished this calendar year. Combined with the next-door Northside Piers, this cluster of buildings is cutting quite the profile from the FDR Drive!

I see. I thought it was just low tide.
I see from the GMAP they’re moving it three blocks inland as well. Thats gotta add to their construction costs. and they’ll have to close the streets for a couple of hours too.
Its too soon to say about the tower, but the low-rise part of the Edge is looking pretty awful, particularly when compared to Northside Piers. From the looks of it, someone got a bit too happy with the masonry palette – different brick colors, patterns and sizes, and some limestone (? – cast stone, maybe) sections wrapping onto Kent (Curbed has photos of the latter in the link above).
I’m sure its all part of “breaking down the massing”, but its just busy. Northside breaks down the massing too, but does so in a less-is-more way, with far fewer materials.
