Take a tour of Williamsburg’s lesser-known areas, led by one of Brooklyn’s louder voices.

While its reputation as a hipster haven certainly rings true in certain corners of the neighborhood, Williamsburg is far larger and more diverse than media gives it credit for. Author of the meticulous and critical blog Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park Report, journalist Norman Oder will guide the tour through space and time.

From the Brooklyn Queens Expressway’s impact on the area to the changes wrought by fresh ‘Burg residents and their investments, Oder will take attendees through the Fillmore Place Historic District, past the Domino Sugar Factory site and into the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center. There will be discussions regarding the cycle of art in Williamsburg as well as the repurposing of older buildings, particularly banks.

An articulate activist and staunch critic of the Barclays Center and its surrounding developments, Oder is sure to bring a fiery energy to the brisk walking tour, which takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 3.

Tickets are $30, or $20 for members of the Municipal Art Society of New York, and are available online or by calling (212) 935-2075.
