Time to Rise and Shine: Brooklyn's Boom
There’s so much to digest from yesterday’s special Brooklyn section of the NY Times. With a nod to Harper’s, here are a few interesting facts that came out of the lead article: Millions of dollars generated by the Costco in Sunset Park: 150 Brooklyn’s current population in millions: 2.5 Brooklyn’s peak population in the 1950’s…

Yes, the first thing my wife said “it’s because of all NYT writers from the slope” .. they always think that whatever silly little thing happens to them on their way to work is part of some important trend.
But seriously, the whole section made a very faint attempt to capture all of brooklyn..no mention of East New York, Canarsie, Brighton Beach for example.
I did like the article by Joel Kotkin (“The Next Act”) … is Brooklyn going to become an “ephemeral” city (didn’t we discuss that here a few weeks ago?)? This borough (and city) needs immigrants more than 20-something “artists” for sure.
we actually had a good laugh at the times- the crazy graph they had in the section was so loaded with stuff- my husband was looking at it for 5
mins and said-what the hell is this mess- and in general the article was ok in places but just seems like the same story recycled over and over by them about the brooklyn boom- they just seem to be a little behind things when it comes to brooklyn…
i’d also love to read someone that writes
for the times that isn’t from park slope.
How did those 2.7 million people in the 1950’s survive without luxury condos?
