The Black Fives blog posted some absolutely stunning photos of the new recreation center at the Park Slope Armory as well as some archival material about the structure in the late 19th and early 20th century. The item talks about how the Smart Set Athletic Club‘s basketball team, “the first formally organized and independent all-black basketball team” played a game in the armory in 1910, about which The New York Age had this to say: “Never has such a galaxy of colored persons assembled under one roof.” The armory’s rec center is supposed to be fully operational by early next year.
