Fits and starts in the Fifth Avenue restaurant scene. It turns out Baluchi’s is not quite open for business, Gowanus Lounge reports, but the folks at Playa (Web site not yet live; try on Monday) did indeed fire up the grill last night. The owners, also responsible for Barrio and the newly open Cabana Bar, sent us these photos. If you go, please report back.
went saturday night, and the visit confirmed my belief that some storefronts are jinxed.. this one included. the food was fine but nothing special, and the music was waaaaay too loud.
Cabana bar is a fun place. It’s cheery and the bartenders are friendly. The vibe is good. I’m thinking it’s the same for Playa — they both have potential of sticking around!
The place is on 5th Ave and President Street. One block from the R train.
I am a fan of Barrio and have high hopes.
So the indian place is not opened yet?
it’s on 5th avenue and.. like two streets before 1st street, i forget the names of the named blocks. ive wanted to stop in for a margarita in the back cabana bar of it, havent yet but will soon. it looks like a cheerful place.
