Demolition is underway at 131 and 131A 6th Avenue in Park Slope, formerly the sites of Sadie Mae’s Cafe and G-Laundry, respectively. According to public records, the owners of the 6th Avenue Deli next door paid $1,671,700 for the two small storefronts in February of last year. (Clearly we are in the wrong business.) Their DOB application for a new two-family, three-story building was approved in June a full demolition permit followed in July. And it looks like bad news for locals who like food or doing their laundry: The storefront space is going to become “community facility medical offices.” GMAP P*Shark DOB
This is one block too far north to be in the historic district, so they can build pretty much whatever they want.
So two completely worthless buildings get torn down at a price of 1.67 and people still think that the market is tanking? So? Come on. And I doubt the owners of the deli bought this. maybe the owner of the building, not the deli. Unless of course the deli runs an illegal numbers racket. Oh they do sell lotto tickets. Is this in the historic district? Right across from the street from the church, PLEASE GOD no fedders crap. Please GOD hire an architect with some sense of taste. PLEASE GOD PLEASE, I walk by here everyday. PLEASE GOD.
There had been a letter posted on the Sadie Mae space stating that Dr. Alan Azrak, a pediatric dentist with an office on Union St, had purchased the property and would be developing it and if there were any reasons he shouldn’t, those reasons should be reported to the department of something, something. Dr. Azrak is a nice guy who runs a heck of a dental office–open Sundays!–and it will be nice to have him so close when my kids rot their teeth on the nickel candy from the deli next door.
There’s still a weird gallery next door as well as the 3rd of 3 pet shops within a 2 block radius.
Wonder what this thing will look like.

Yeah 11217, but it is very charming to have a few little shops on an otherwise residential strip.

If you can’t find the retail you need or want along the MILES long stretches of 5th, 7th and Flatbush Avenues, you’ve got problems.
Blame the city, not the developer, for the lack of retail in the new building. This site is zoned residential (R6B), and once they demolish the existing building, the commercial space will no longer be grandfathered. Dumb.

My new place has a bar next door, that doesn’t hurt:). The owner was a retired detective, the object of bromance from the yuppie and hipster patrons of the place. There was family tragedy, sadly.
