precinct“Clinton Hill once considered a dark horse, has been gaining ground,” writes Elizabeth Wine in today’s NY Post. “While it doesn’t quite have the cachet of Fort Greene, up-and-coming Clinton Hill does offer bargains that its more gentrified neighbor hasn’t seen in years.” What kind of bargains? The article focuses mostly on the Clinton Hill Cooperative Apartments, a complex that includes 1,200 apartments spread out over 12 buildings. Put up during World War II to house those toiling in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the development was converted to low income housing in peacetime and deteriorated along with the rest of the nabe until getting co-op’d in the 1980s. While most of the apartments now trade in the $300,000 to $400,000 range, you could’ve picked one up back then for $10,000 to $15,000. Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda!
