stables-1208.jpgThere’s a little neighborhood near the Kensington Stables (part of which is up for rezoning) that folks like to call Stable Brooklyn. In fact, they like it so much they want that to be the official name, and apparently their plea is working. “City officials have adopted the locution that evokes a political message as much as the appeal of a barnyard,” writes the Brooklyn Paper &#8212 aka “Stableton.”

  1. Rob…those WERE peacocks. In Prospect Park, they grow very large and have four legs; some of us saddle ’em up and ride ’em. There are no horses allowed in the park, so you are safe to return; just avoid the…peacocks.

  2. i’ve only been to prospect park twice. i loved it the first time. then the second time im walking down some path and in front of me i see these behemoths. gack. it was a horse. i totally ran out of there and never went back. why are their random horses in prospect park btw? scary stuff. they actually scare me more than peacocks.

    *rob*

  3. Gross: it isn’t as florid as all that. What you smell is the abandoned bldg across the street and all the garbage and dog crap people have been dumping there.

I for one love seeing the horses and don’t mind stepping over the occasional apple, which is after all, nothing more than hay anyway.

  4. The name might be appropriate, given the frequency the stable lets the horses crap all over the place. In addition to the horse apples left for people to hurdle, the constant run off of pee pee into the gutter keeps the stench fresh in the air. For some reason the Dept of Sanitation doesn’t seem to bother much with them.

I was hoping that the new 100 unit building would mean the end of Stable but it too, has become a blight on the neighborhood.
