2:40 – yeah i really miss the car washes, autoshops and warehouses that have given way to oro, avalon and toren. and such a shame to lose that beautiful low-rise pile of albee bricks to a sleek glass highrise. what were you expecting, burj dubai 2 and a rotating tower? gimme a break. actually you’d probably find something to complain about as well if those buildings were going up. did you cry when metrotech went up as well?

Speaking to this development specifically, I can only conjure up the words: bleak, deadening, background filler, and unimaginitive. Let’s see, I got the positive comments out of the way, now lets offer some of the negatives here…
the change over of the meatpacking district through to far west and south chelsea has been pretty sharp. there were still hookers out there in the middle of the day in 2002/03. the whole place is now bursting with wealth.
what’s going on now in LIC is pretty heavy as well.
downtown bk is definitely up there with em all. i expect the rate of change to pick up as we get 5-10 years out – there is a lot yet to be developed and these kinds of development bursts tend to feed off their own momentum.
Can’t recall whether I have ever seen a neighborhood go through such a radical change in such a short period of time as Downtown Brooklyn along Flatbush. I remember, vividly, the transformation of Battery Park and Exchange Place in New Jersey since I worked in the immediate area but these areas weren’t neighborhoods.
Can anyone recall a similar transformation in NYC?
On second thought, the transformation of Avenue of Americas recently in the 20’s and low 30’s may be similar. From a flower market to one high rise next to another. I’m not from that immediate nabe but was shocked by the transformation there also.

is that the final sheath of the building?
With all these new rich folks in the nabe, Morton’s Steak House in the nearby Marriott should do a tremendous business.
Wish I could by stock in that one establishment.
Guess each of these hotels will have premium dining as well. Many new restaurants in the offering. Hope one has some seafood.
12:48, the Hotel Indigo will be across the street down the block (spitting distance) from the Sheraton/aloft. Interesting because Indigo is a brand which Intercontinental developed directly go up against aloft. Should be interesting.
indigo is up the block closer to fulton. tons of additional development in the works as well for this block, and ditto 1 block over on bridge. all lovely.
