Colleen Kane has a blog post about a text mural that’s been taking shape on the side of the Macy’s parking garage in Downtown that includes phrases like “Born busy as a Brooklyn-bound B.” Kane writes about how the mural has improved an eyesore, such as on the Livingston Street side: “I am especially enjoying how much less of my mind is now used for thinking about how hideous that Fulton Closeout Center banner is, and how much more of it is now thinking about the words and who might have written them and put them up there and so on.” An article today in the Brooklyn Paper informs that artist Steve Powers, who is responsible for an excellent mural series in Philly, is behind the Downtown work, which is called “Love Letter to Brooklyn.” Macy’s hired Powers and his team to adorn the building with Brooklyn catchphrases, but the artist isn’t talking about the work until it’s finished.
