About this Property
Charming, intelligent and bright four-story Greek revival townhouse, built in 1844 for an attorney named John Lawrence. The house retains its original high stoop, handsome iron work, a dentiled cornice, and unusual stone window lintels witha carved low ogival arch motif. This single family home was designed by noted Greenwich Village architect Harold Edelman in 1960 for Howard Wise the artpatron and dealer and his wife, Barbara Wise. Though Edelman was most known forhis preservationist work, for Howard and Barbara Wise and their family, he created a welcoming and open mid-twentieth Century modern design that even 50 years later feels refreshing. The house includes a sweeping parlor floor, fabulous for entertaining, along with 4-5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and unusually high ceilingsthroughout. In addition, there is a wonderful large 50 south facing garden.
