There’s now visual evidence that the landmark structure on the corner of 3rd and 3rd next to the Whole Foods site is being renovated, in the form of blue tarp that’s appeared on the roof. According to a spokesperson for the LPC, the scope of approved work is as follows: “We approved a permit at staff level for exterior roof work to prevent further deterioration of the building. The work calls for the removal and replacement of the bituminous roofing system, tongue and groove roof decking, insulation, access scuttle, vent stacks, drains and associated flashing; and installing tarps where the parapet is missing or severely damaged.” Whole Foods pledged to repair the Coignet Stone Company building back in 2005.

Dodgers mystery solved! thank you bkn4life!!
Wow. The concrete info is interesting. Thanks!
I hate it too. But I assumed it was originally red brick. May be worth saving if it’s limestone-ish.
I hate this building they should have ripped it down years ago.
about time they get to work on that
slopegirl:
they played at both.
more recently (till 1912) where the con ed yard is.
30 years (or so) earlier they played where OSH is.
I’m glad they’re finally working on this building. It has been allowed to decay these last years. I remember it without the Z-Brick facing. It did look better.
It’s sad the property owners let it fall into such ruin over the last years.
I’m curious what could be done with this building. Maybe it could be cafe or restaurant? Is it too small?
Will Whole Foods located here hurt Fairway’s business?
someone told me that was litchfield’s old real estate office. Guess not!
does anyone know if it’s true dodgers used to play across the street from the new whole foods site at 3rd and 3rd? I heard they played there before moving to Ebbett’s Field, but someone else told me the they used to play in space that is now stone park and JHS 51 at 3rd street and 5th ave. All pre WWI I think.
> If they sold donuts and bagels they could call it the Hole Foods annex.
