We received a tip about the opening of a new outdoor architectural salvage business a few days ago but haven’t had time to make it over to Gowanus, so we were pleased to see that blog Casa Cara wrote it up this morning. According to her post, Roy Baccaro, whose family has been in the business for a century, recently rented space in the Lowe’s parking underneath the F train and is displaying a tempting array of antique iron fences, newel posts and fireplace covers, among other things. Anyone checked it out in person yet?

The guy has been there for months. His family used to be in the scrap metal business. His prices are very arbitrary. One of those places where the price tag depends on how well you are dressed.
how much are the newel posts? i need two of them!
Prices seem to be extremely reasonable. I inquired about a 4-foot-tall wrought iron chandelier that looks like it’s from the 1940s. $75! Couldn’t believe my ears. Wish I had higher ceilings.
Sounds like nothing is covered and all he can sell is outdoor salvage. Is that correct? DIBS how do you know he is cheaper? NYC salvage prices have never been cheap. That’s why I often sell big ticket items to NYC out of Albany. Customers save hundreds and recently, probably saved a couple of thousand on a backbar going to Brooklyn.
So when you wake up one morning and find your “Newel Post” missing, you’ll know where to find it.
Didn’t there use to be a statue vendor in that spot? They sold lawn statues, fountains, Mary on the half-shell?

I just realized this is an entirely different vendor than the flea stuff.
I’ve noticed some kind of flea market on the side entrance, but it was always closed when I go to Lowe’s, which is usually not on the weekends. Great idea, however. Hope prices are reasonable.
Probably a lot cheaper than Vinnie!!!!
