We noticed this small plaque in the sidewalk along Washington Avenue last weekend and ran it past Kevin at Forgotten NY. All he could tell us was that it must have been the company that built the sidewalk back in the day. We’re wondering when that was.

  1. Yup, its the plaque from the folks who installed the sidewalk. From back when a concrete sidewalk was more of a novelty I guess. I think they would be early 20th century (Brooklyn Lithogranite does not appear in the 1897 Brooklyn directory, for what that’s worth).

They were relatively common at one time, and you still run across them from time to time. (I noticed one on a sidewalk in Newport recently.)
