on 9/11 was stuck in traffic on the Manhattan Bridge when the first plane struck the Tower. Would have been toast if they had decided the bridge was a better target.

I hope that in the not too-distant-future, this city will return to the can-do, forward-looking spirit that built such great public (as well as private) works.
I’ve had a thing for that bridge ever since ‘Once Upon a Time in Amercia’.
Gotta see those fireworks.

DOT was just installing a commemorative plaque this morning in the plaza.
