LPC Will Not Reconsider Norah Jones Decision
“Despite pleas for reconsideration, the city’s Landmark Preservation Commission has decided not to give Grammy Award-winning recording artist Norah Jones’ worrisome window proposal on her Cobble Hill home another look.” – Courier Life
Bklnite – you know, it was wrong of me to criticize someone’s music. Any music that someone wants to listen to or play is good music. Who cares who sells what, or what label people give it. If people like it, so be it. I was having a bad day. She’s got a beautiful voice and there’s nothing wrong with her music or her windows.
joe – i listened from my itunes library. The note she’s singing “heart” 1:00 in to don’t know why – it’s a B flat, and I think she pretty much nailed the intonation. Maybe you need to get your ears tuned.

And I think Kind of Blue is still the top selling jazz album of all time. Not sure what Miles Davis record sales has to do with Norah Jones.
I’ll tell you what’s “super unfair”: That Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue” is now forever #2 on the all time best selling Jazz album list.
There are some real problems in those recordings. I’ll bet the real-musician part of the band would admit it. Now that I think of it, it was the piano part that made my ear hurt, and sometimes the vocals. Sorry for projecting on the rest of the rhythm section, which was apparently legit (it’s hard to tell on pop music, because anyone can play it). Listen to the high note in the chorus of “don’t know why” — I believe she’s singing the word “heart” — she’s about a quarter tone flat. once you key in on that your toes will curl every time you hear it, I promise. Try it. In a studio recording, aren’t you supposed to do another take? Listen to the “fills” that the piano makes in the transitions of that song. They are akward moments of “I think I’m supposed to play because I’m not singing”.
Jazz-influenced pop blows, Harry Connick Jr. proved that 20 years ago. No one wants a New American Songbook.
However Norah does play to packed houses abroad and generally maintains a punishing tour schedule of 250+ days on the road. She is often a headlining, festival-closing act in such places as Scotland, Brazil, Australia, and Italy, often performing before 80,000+ people.
I have to agree with Nomi. Joe the Bummer “…musicians must have been friends, not professionals…” is no jazz expert that’s for sure. Anyway Norah Jones is a jazz influenced pop singer and the CD may not be to your taste, but check the players.
Joe, that’s super unfair. Not only did her father have NOTHING to do with nothing, but the band WAS made of known accomplished jazz musicians. Check your facts.
Call me crazy, but I’d imagine she has hired an architect and/or engineer who will somehow figure out the mind boggling way to maintain or reinforce the structural stability of the wall with windows inserted.
“It will be interesting to watch the work. If I don’t see steel lintels coming in then there’s going to be trouble!!!!”
I personally couldn’t care less whether or not she puts windows on her side wall. That said, I stopped and looked yesterday, and I have to say that (a) she’s about to punch holes in a beautiful brick wall; and (2) there is NO way that wall can handle ten (10) windows, NO way, NO how, not structurally, not aesthetically. So, I wouldn’t want to be in the adjacent garden or parked in that lot when her house comes tumbling down. (OK, now I’m really, really outta here.)
Wasder, didn’t your nosy neighbor dob you in for doing something not to code, like a wood deck or something, that you posted about on this webiste? This is different, Miss Jones if doing it by the book. I’m not your neighbor by the way, so please don’t visit any wrath on me ;-).
