wburg-savings-bank-clock-tower.jpg The few remaining doctors and dentists with offices inside the Williamsburgh Savings Bank tower are claiming poor conditions are causing them to lose 10 percent of their business, according to a long article in The Real Deal about the uptick in shoddy construction lawsuits. When the Dermot Company emptied the 34-story tower of its mostly medical tenants so the building could be converted to condos, now called One Hanson Place, a handful stayed with the promise of new office space in the conversion. According to TRD, two doctors and eight dentists claim they are plagued with “inoperable heat and cooling systems, persistent leaks, poorly glued carpets, unsightly and poorly accessible entryways, and sporadic elevator service.” Most of the complaints are being negotiated outside of court with the developers, which also includes Magic Johnson’s Canyon Johnson Urban Fund, and the doctors want to buy their floor for between $10 and $14 million (a pretty big range). A Dermot spokeswoman responded: “A conversion of a space with ongoing tenancy certainly has complications that are very different than new ground-up construction.”

  1. Dermot sucks and does shit construction, they do it on the cheep, no surprise that the doctors are complaining of the conditions. They are a true developer that only cares about money and does a lot of double talk.

  2. I can attest to the incredible views from the 23rd floor of One Hanson Place… I worked for an oral surgeon on the 23rd floor for many years, and just loved (and still love) that building…
The old Williamsburgh Bank was gorgeous also.

Guest 1:15PM congrats on your new home, you chose well! 🙂

  3. I just moved to One Hanson and I love it. The apartments are finished excellently. Though I imagine the doctors who used to have the sweet views I have may not be as happy.

I’m blown away by the sunsets out my living room window. And as for the location Fort Greene is great. Brooklyn Flea being especially cool 😉 I also saw Paul Simon at BAM, which is steps from my door.

Atlantic Mall is ugly, but you can’t beat Target for convenience and Pathmark is the hugest supermaket I’ve seen in the city.

Communting to Manhattan in the morning is a breeze. And if you don’t like the location you’ve got 10+ lines and LIRR to take you wherever you want to go.

I for one couldn’t be happier with my home!

  4. I don’t think the location is that bad; what’s bad is Toren at Myrtle and Flatbush and the other one at Flatbush and Tillary. At least at Hanson you can fall out of bed onto almost any train and there’s a Pathmark and a Target for household needs around the corner.

  5. I dont understand the fascination with this building…Yes the apts are very nice but THE LOCATION IS HORRIBLE…

I dont live at 110 livingston or 53 Boerum or 75 Smith but those locations are so much better with Cobble Hill and the heart of Boerum Hill and Brooklyn Heights all a short walk away…

Its not like the apts are cheap either at OHP. How much higher can those prices go?
