Need to build storm window for our stained glass window -Need references

Can someone recommend someone (or where to go?) who can build a storm window for our stained glass window? Window shape is elongated horizontally, above our large parlour floor tri-window (large window in center, with two small windows on either side). We only need the storm window for the stained glass, which is above these windows. Not sure of dimensions, perhaps there are standards for this shape/size? but they can work with the stained glass guy who is rebuilding the stained glass window, and its frame. thanks!

Got a reasonable quote from Clera Windows in Ottawa recently. In which location you search for? My brother recently installed his [energy efficient replacement storm doors](http://www.clerawindows.com/doors/storm-doors “replacement doors”) from the same guys and was pretty awesome. I can recommend you if you wish.

Try Harvey Industries (http://www.harveybp.com/) they’re pretty good as I used them about 10 years ago without issue…and cheap (how expensive can some extruded aluminum frame and some glass be [except NYC])? As for condensation, I’ve never heard of a storm window that is that airtight! If you are so concerned about condensation, and will be installing a brick molding, leave a small gap at the top that will be covered by the brick molding. If not, but you will be using a sill expander, drill a few _small_ holes on that (make sure the holes aren’t covered by the bottom flange when you stick it on!).

We put seven new fixed casement windows in our house on the second floor. Window Choice form Ontario came to give us an estimate first and I was more than impressed with the price and the salesman who showed up. We had two more estimates from companies closer to home. One company asked if we had any scaffold in case they had to install the large window from the outside. That is one of the larger window manufacturers in Ajax. We decided to give Window Choice our business. After a couples of small delays our windows are coming. The installers were professional and polite.

OR, just follow my suggestion above and leave a small area un-caulked (or drill a small hole in the plexi), to serve as a vent.

Be careful with storms for your stained glass. Condensation on the inside can damage the stained glass. I believe they fabricate special storm windows for stained glass that have vents. -Adam Dahill adahill@mortgagemaster.com

BTW a previous owner of my house put up glass inside storm windows for the leaded glass transoms above the three windows in my parlor floor bay. They’re just panes of glass attached inside the frame with glazers points and caulked. They work and are almost un-noticable. When I accidentally broke one I replaced it with plexi–it was an easy DIY job.

Couldn’t the stained glass guy do this? I think you’d only need a single pane of glass over the stained glass.
