I need to replace one window in my Fort Greene brownstone.

I’ll say at the outset that although I would love to have old glass, alas, I am just a renter and the window that is broken was only ten+? years old and cheap itself. The entire top pane and frame popped out in the recent heavy winds. After years of wear and tear, I helped it die during cleaning this summer. I took it out then to clean it and it wouldn’t pop back in without heavy force. Any advice? My landlord may or may not cover it, and it has to be inexpensive. I want to be prepared. I was going to say something similar to bedstuyreno. Cheap replacement windows are known for warping and distortion. You took the window out to clean (a level of maintenance most LLs would appreciate). That it was hard to pop back in frame was most likely an indication of already existing warp. You certainly are not responsible for effect of high winds. Your landlord is required to cover this- granted that you didn’t break the window by carelessness. If he/she refuses to pay send a letter stating that you will pay for the window and deduct it from the rent.
