Double Entrance Doors to Brownstone

My GC who also works with wood (he makes furniture) created beautiful double entry doors to my brownstone summer 2017. My tenant complained last weekend that the front of the house is cold. There are gaps around the perimeter of the door. Shrinkage I guess from the wood. The GC has come by and suggested adding moulding around the door to fix this problem and a door sweep for the bottom. Is this fix (adding the moulding) something the GC should pay for?

Yes, installation is always a critical component of building new doors. Your GC should absolutely have anticipated any necessary insulation and/or weatherstripping. Don’t let him off for this oversight.

I should have mentioned, I’d like to get a 2nd opinion and maybe even a 3rd from some experts. The main question I have is could the doors have been built…better from the onset so this would not have happened? I do like my contractor but I think it’s also important to know strengths and weaknesses.

“should” is one thing, but “will” is the real question and my guess would be that his answer will be “LOL, no”.
