Do Not Purchase Hardware from Vintage Hardware & Lighting
I purchased a super expensive Front Entry door set that looked gorgeous and cost a fortune on their website. When it arrived I was shocked at how flimsy the mortise lock part of the set was. I thought I must be wrong, it has to work given how exorbitant the price for the set. We had it installed and it looked great but the piece the thumb pushes down on was still very flimsy. Then we got locked out of the house because it wasn’t working. The mortise lock part was so poorly made it was bending. Luckily we had under stoop access to get into the brownstone, but our tenants then couldn’t get in and out and we had to take a day off of work to man the door and had to call Billys Locksmith in Williamsburg to fix it (I recommend them very highly). Thank god Billy’s is so good. They found an excellent mortise lock from a company that still makes good ones and replaced it keeping all the decorative hardware in place. However, it cost us $571 to get this fixed. I explained this nightmare to Vintage Hardware and all they said was that they could only replace the cost of their mortise lock for about $200. Absolutely not worth purchasing from them. Don’t make the same mistake we did.
