Brooklyn Utilities needed for a new residence

Hi everyone,   Thanks for all the help on my previous question (which areas in Brooklyn….) – but now I have more questions!!!! We have signed a lease for a duplex in Brooklyn (specifically Bed-Stuy / Kings County) and the landlord said that we need to setup services for power and cooking gas – ConEd and National Grid was specified: are they the correct providers for that area?   And do I need to setup an account for trash services?  And if so – who do I need to contact? Thanks

If your landlord allows, you could opt for Directv or Fios if Verizon has installed it in your area.

In addition to seward’s advice, speak to your landlord. They can tell you about trash collection days, how and in which bins to recycle, etc. Your LL is responsible for bringing trash bins to the curb.

I think Cablevision has a monopoly over bed-Stuy and some otehr company does the other parts of Bklyn. DSNY’s website has the collection info there. You’d have to check by where you live. The dates change.

Sewardwasright, thanks for the quick answer.  Please tell me how is the trash picked up – do you just put the bags on the kerb on trash day? And do you have any suggestions on cable / satellite & internet providers?

I live in Bed-Stuy and use ConEd and National Grid. I did not have to contact DSNY to set up trash services.
