Sewer Smell Under the Stoop

I noticed a strong sewer smell under the stoop, where the sewer vent is terminating. Sewer vent, main and trap have all been replaced a few months ago. Is this normal or do I need to look for dry traps, etc. elsewhere? Thank you.

I had a similar problem a few months ago, I called these Guys Harris Water and sewer who came down free of charge and worked with my husband on the resolution.  I honestly couldnt even tell you what they did but i do know it was not expensive and these guys were great.  I would suggest calling them if needed 718-495-3600

Our drain under the stoop connects with the main sewer drain just before the main house trap, thus utilizing the main trap as its own, and smells aren’t too bad considering that drain doesn’t have its own trap.  So while there are no smells from the street coming through the drain, theoretically the smells from the house could be wafting by as they make their way out to the street.  Honestly though i’ve never noticed, just a musty water sewer type of smell, probably because there’s more water than anything flowing in the main sewer line.     My completely unprofessional, unfounded speculation is that it wouldn’t be a problem if we (the “collective we” who have fully renovated homes) weren’t using such low flow toilet standards where the evidence may not make it past the trap on the first flush.  However, because we are extremely wasteful water users we’re always running the main line clean anyways.  I’d love to hear from a plumber if my thoughts are BS or potentially accurate.      However, like you we also have (what i believe to be) a main stack vent under the stoop as well.  Some people are lucky to have these terminate out in front by the gate …..lucky bastards!!  We don’t get smells too bad but we do get roaches from the vent in the summer.  Because of the vent being under the stoop i opted not to enclose the stoop gate with plexiglass or a hard exterior door like some.  If your stoop is enclosed i could see why you are smelling something.     Otherwise if its open i would expect some musty smells but if its more i would be curious as to why it would be something you would notice as well.
