Slate tile install

I am renovating a home in long island. I really like my GC and though his prices are higher than what I pay in Brooklyn, I trust him and need to trust him as I can’t oversee the job. We are tiling the master bathroom with large slate tile. The Floor area is 310 sq feet and the tiles will be set over electric radiant heat. The shower stall will be have the same tile with a recessed shelf (110 sq ft) for a total of 420 sq feet. We are using 12×12 or 16×16 stone tile set in a straight forward pattern. The price quote is $13.25 a sq ft with me supplying the adhesive,grout and sealer. The standard install is supposedly $8-10sq ft but I am being told that stone is more expensive to set, especially over radiant heat. I don’t want to overpay but also want this job done once and correctly. Opinions, advice and experiences welcomed.

I’m just surprised to see $1600 of price sensitivity in the same post as a 310sf bathroom.
