Question about Plumbers

Hi there. Seeking advice on plumbing mores from this savvy forum. Facts: My mother and late father have been using the same licensed plumber for years (15?) to service their brownstone on the UWS. Approximately 2 years ago, the plumber installed a vent in the heating system which, as per this year’s inspector is not up to code. My mother was fined and ordered to redo the installation, which apparently was not up to code when it was installed. The plumber redid the vent and, when they did the work over the summer, forgot to refill the water in the heating system. As a consequence, my mother had to call the plumber in a SECOND time to have the water in the heading system refilled so that there would be enough steam for the radiators. Question 1: Is it normal that the plumber is charging my mother for all these visits that are due to the plumber’s own error 2 years ago? Common sense would lead me to expect the plumber to clean up after their own mess and apologize to my recently widowed mother for the hassle she has had to go through. Question 2: Does anyone have any recommendations for a good and reliable plumber who services the upper west side? Thanks for the sanity check!!

Personally, as a heating professional, I man up when I make a mistake and do not charge to fix the problem . That said, most outfits charge a minimum service call no matter what is the cause of the problem, so the charges that your mom has incurred are not that unusual. The upper west side is a bit of a stretch for me, but you can contact me via the info on my profile and I can give you a reccomendation if I cannot personally handle it
