I’ve always used Tony Corion. He’s a great plumber, reasonably priced and a pleasure to work with. (Other plumbers around Brooklyn call him “The Jedi” because he’s the guy they consult with when they can’t figure out how to solve a problem.) He’s at 917 838 6486.

I use Stanley Lewis Plumbing. They’re relatively reasonable, but expensive enough so that you might want to learn how to replace a faucet washer yourself.

Worse, you might have to pay the plumber, and find out it’s not a plumbing problem. You may need a tile setter. Most of the water-logged showers I see are because they are almost never built with waterproof membranes. Your leak could actually be shower water soaking in between the tiles, through the grout, when you take a shower, and soaking the substrate behind the tile. Water getting behind your tile this way drains down to your tub rim, where it comes back to your side of the wall and appears as a dark moldy line between tub rim and tile. This water can also evaporate and condense inside your wall, like a rain forest. Tiles can lose their grip on the substrate, substrate can rot away, or lose it’s grip on the studs. If it is actually a plumbing leak, more likely, you will see it on the ceiling below in the form of mold, pealing paint or liquid. Whereas common tile leaks, often only appear in your own bathroom. Still, you could have a plumbing leak also. Many tile problems persist until somebody calls a plumber, but then after the wall is busted open, the tiles are put back again without a waterproof membrane and the same problem starts all over again.

Plumbers are not reasonably priced for small jobs, so be prepared. All will charge you a minimum for a visit, even if it is just a “small job”. If your plumbing is old and the faucet hard to take apart because it is corroded, it might not be so small a job after all.
