Move Gas Line
I am doing a DIY reno of my kitchen. I am relocating the range and need to move the gas line 5′. Do I need permits for this? Also can anyone recommend a plumber for the work? The apartment is in Williamsburg, and I also have some other plumbing work that could be done at the same time (install water line for icemaker & install new toilet). Thanks

I am just amazed how people who would not go to dentist operating from his apartment kitchen, would replace or repair gas line, jeopardizing life and safety of their family and barrio. “be aware that gas pipe is different from regular galvanized.” HA HA HA.

And if you are doing it yourself be aware that gas pipe is different from regular galvanized. Not knowing that would be the red flag that not all projects are really DIY

If the condo requires a licensed plumber and permits then you are going to have to get them. In my two family, I would just do this without permits. it’s no big deal. If you are extending the line 5′ inside the kitchen and not rerouting it from the basement upwards, I’d just go ahead and do it like you were installing a new range. If the condo assoc allows the DIY then you are covered.

It is a condo made up of townhouses, each townhouse has three units. I think the gas line must feed just my unit, as I am individually metered for cooking gas.

I’m pretty sure anything involving moving the line must have a permit, inspection, and can only be done by a licensed plumber. Is it a one family? If the gas line feeds other units, you might have issues.
