Boiler capacity and venting

Hello, Would really appreciate your advise on the below: We are renovating our 1650 sqft 2-family house with cellar, garden, 1st and 2nd and would like a new hot water heating system. We would like to install a Weil Mclain high efficiency condensing boiler (ultra series). What kind of an input or output capacity do I need for a house of this size? I was considering the “ultra 155”. I would also like to know if I can direct vent it onto the rear patio on the garden floor from the boiler location in the cellar vs venting it through the roof. I plan on removing the existing chimney for additional room. Thanks!

Get a competent engineer on board to determine your BTU needs determined by the conditions of your project as per gennady’s recommendations…and if miraculously, you can meet the specs detailed by the always knowledgeable MP, then yeah vent out back. It is rare that you can meet the 4 foot rule in a brownstone.

Boiler sizing depends on many factors and is result of measurements and calculations. It is not a guess. If you replacing heating system then you have to determine load for each room, pick up proper radiators, size piping, pumps, determine control and pumping strategy.

You’ve got to vent it 4 feet away from any building opening or lot line.
