Any drawbacks from putting Washer and Dryer on top floor?
Just wondering if anyone has experience with using a high capacity front loading washer and dryer on the top floor of a brownstone. An appliance salesman suggested it might be a bit heavy and also cause too much vibration when running. If your laundry room is on the top floor I’d love to hear how it works for you. Thanks in advance.

We also have our washer and dryer side by side on our 2nd floor. It shakes quite a bit and can sound scary at times. I wanted to see if anyone has had a contractor or a handyman build something reduce the vibrations? Please let me know. Thanks, Jason

We are on the top floor with an LG stackable and yes, it vibrates. I usually set the spin speed to Medium and that’s fine. We do have a pan below the unit and auto water shut off sensor in case of a leak. It’s actually already come in handy once. Home Depot sells some kind of anti vibration rubber feet which you might look into.

our tenants who live above us have a washer dryer in their third floor unit. It’s one of those stackable all in one units and we do hear the spin cycle but otherwise it’s not much noise. The thick plywood below the machines sounds like a good idea. I’ve also heard people suggest lead pans below washing machines that are not in the basement in case of leaks on this forum which we did not do and I may regret one day. I dream about living in an apartment with upstairs laundry… there is even a window by the washing machine in my dreams. I would definitely do it if I could. Just be thorough about your plumbing and venting and all should be well.

I’ve had my washer and dryer on the top floor for over 30 years with no problems. When I first installed them, I put 3/4 inch plywood, nailed down, underneath. I use braided stainless steel water supply hoses.

Our neighbors had a washer/dryer on their top floor on the party wall. Our entire place shook when it was in the spin cycle-not very pleasant. Make sure that it’s installed properly (leveled) and tested. Electrolux offers a “no vibration” guarantee. Make sure your washer shut-off valve is in good shape to avoid major leaks.
