Our neighbor throws food waste in their backyard

I’ve seen my neighbor open up their window and throw bread and other food waste into their backyard. Today my eye caught a large quantity of pepperoni pizza ( looked more than 1 large pizza worth) just heaped up in their flower garden. This is not an attempt to compost either. We have a bad rat problem in our neighborhood and my neighbor is only creating more food for rodents. The sanitation dept. says that they are doing nothing wrong according to the law, as it is not visible from the street. Still doesn’t seem right or sanitary. I plan on discussing this with them, but wanted to post here to see if I can get any advice on this issue or tips on how to proceed. Weird part is their backyard is not in total disarray , they just throw food waste back their.

Tell them you’ve seen rats in their backyard, very close to their house. Maybe it’ll get ’em worried enough to stop doing this.

I’d talk to the neighbor & if he still does it, try complaining to EPA – they’ll look at issues as seemingly innocent as overgrown weeds.

sounds like squirrel or bird food, although the pizza is quite a generous offering. You could suggest a squirrel or bird feeder to keep the other unwanted rodents out of the equation.
