First of all (and it is very important) you need to be clear whether you have bed bugs or not. There is a lot of paranoya is going on related to the bedbugs and it is hard to see them for certain. Here are two definitions I found on the web: – bedbugs make multiple bitemarks. You have bedbugs if you have three bitemarks in a row within 2 inches. a single bitemark could be mosquito – winter is worm and mosquitos are still outthere. – bedbugs can live for a year without food, but they will not just sit and wait if the food is in the bed. So people say that you rid of the bedbugs if you did not get any new bitemarks within 7 days.   now to your situation. If you have serious problem (like you can find the bb nest), I would call professional exterminators. if you just started to notice something about bb – maybe there is a few stray bugs. They probably live in your bed (since this is where they feed). So I would identify the bed, where the bites happened, take all bedsheets and wash/dry them. Put pillows, comforters in dryer and run it on high for couple of hours. Carry all this to loundry in plastic bag so bugs do not jump off. Inspect matress and the frame for any signs of the bugs. I never see any of this, but internet is full of pictures of the matresses with marks. Also I heard they love woden parts of the bed frame. I would inspect matress seems very carefully and spray wooden frame with bedbug spray. So keep washing/drying bed sheets/pillows for seven days. if bites are stoped – you good. Be careful not to spread the pests during this time – do not bring any bedsheets/toys/clothes in/out of the infected bed.

Search the forum archives for more information–including a lengthy post from me. Do NOT use “bomb” type pesticides, especially if you live in an apartment or attached house. The bomb will just make the bedbugs relocate to other parts of your building. You should work with a specialist. put tons of diatomaceous earth down on all corners of all rooms. sweep them into moldering and below furniture feet inside a dish. leave apt for a day and nuke the place of chemicals or if you can afford heat treatment(its pretty dangerous blast them with heat, they’ll seal up the place and oven the whole place).
