Temporary fix for leaking, cracked bathroom tile floor

My bathroom tile floor is rotted from water damage. Tiles and grout are cracked and easily removable. Any water that lands on floor leaks onto kitchen ceiling.

We plan on doing a gut renovation after the pandemic, but we need a cheap temporary fix for a few months. We will be using new shower curtain clips to keep any more water from spraying onto the floor.

Are there any easy-to-apply products that we can use to patch and seal the floor in the meantime? The fix does not need to look pretty. It should just be waterproof.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

For something that would feel better underfoot while you are using the bathroom, and look better, you could also order a roll of rubber flooring (like the kind you see with a pattern of raised circles called “coin” but that also comes in other patterns), and cut a piece to fit the entire floor snugly. If you do that, you likely can just set it down and not glue it in place – or you could add some glue or double-sides tape in needed places. Then you can easily wipe up any water spills. Just make sure it is tight to the wall edges, and where any pipes/drains/toilet meet the floor – and if it is cut so that it fits snugly enough so that it doesn’t move at all, perhaps you could add some caulk to those edges to prevent water from seeping through. Adding cotton bathmats and throw rugs where you are likely to have spills will also help to keep the water contained on top of the rubber floor.

You could lay some Thinset Mortar over the damaged tile area . That should help until you’re ready to do your gut renovation .
