@Cate I second Daltile, we have used their tile on many projects.
They are one of Home Depot’s brands, but this is their inexpensive line. They have a really extensive line of tile in their showroom and their prices are not bad. Their quarry tile is really nice especially with the quarry tile base and accessories like right and left corners etc.

@xistent Daltile’s NYC showroom is across from Nemo tile in NYC so you could check out both places at the same time. There are also other tile places in that area as well.

The washed glazed red tiles are from Daltile and were just what I was looking to use for the hearth and surround in my 1926 Storybook Tudor /Craftsman.

Second floor and decor – yes sadly over an hour out of the city but if you’re quarantine-stir crazy and just need to get out it’s a good excuse to go. We did it often for several projects when we were feeling house-bound.

Went to classic tile on earlier advice here and unfortunately didn’t find them as reasonable as billed. Maybe it was our specific need? We wanted to buy local but if you’re going for truly economical (which we needed to for a basement project) there wasn’t a ton. The orange apron place had a nicer looking version of same faux-slate tile for half the price psf. Yes, nicer version of same tile for half the price.

I used Dal tile in some places but Home depot also sells a lot of affordable tiles.

Daltile is a very popular affordable brand that seems to be widely used including by architects although I have no personal experience with it.

Floor and decor is kind of a niche for affordable tile, and their stuff is pretty good. Prices a slightly lower in the store than online but it’s probably an hour drive to the nearest one.
