Seeking kitchen designer referrals

Any suggestions for (1) a particularly good kitchen designer at the Brooklyn Lowe’s, Home Depot or IKEA (or the Manhattan Home Depot) that knows how to handle tricky brownstone nooks and crannies and maximize a challenging space or (2) a good, professional, creative kitchen designer with similar abilities? Thanks for any suggestions.

I do lots of oddly shaped and small kitchens. The kitchen designers at the big box stores, aren’t really designers so much as technicians that can use the CAD programs the store uses. If it’s a very straight forward space, this might not matter. But, I think you really need someone thinking about more than what size cabinets can be clicked into the space. You need someone who is thinking about how efficient the layout is when actually cooking in it, how things can be arranged so that 2 people can work in the space, that loading the dishwasher stops anyone else from entering the kitchen. I can recommend Margaret Lew. She designed and fitted a beautiful kitchen to fit in an odd space, and did part of the installation herself, including modification of cabinets to properly fit the space.
