Renovation - before and after, part 2

Sharing another before/after shot from the renovation of a 4-family.  This parlor floor unit (like all the others) was in sorry shape, so pretty much the rear half of the apartment was gutted, though the front was ok and I managed to save or restore original details, including locating a pair of original parlor double-doors (thanks, Eddie & Ted!) for the entry.  And yes, i’m not a fan of eyelevel microwaves either, but with space this tight, what are you going to do?  (there’s a dishwasher and a washer/dryer under that island!)

Thanks for that – I’m all done with this now, and relaxing finally.  🙂  But after being at it much of last year, it’s hard to keep a clear perspective about how much of it came out just right vs kinda wrong.  Heating remained the existing steam system, minimally rearranged, and there’s no AC.  Plumbing and electric are completely new from the cellar up, and i left windows & roof & facade for another time, while the common areas hallways were just patched & painted.   There are bigger pics here:   https://plus.google.com/photos/114182371125985321168/albums/5865187237763873137?authkey=CKuN3cPMi_X6CA   I can’t take much credit for this though – as mentioned in yesterday’s post, this was my first time tackling a reno and trust me, it wouldnt have turned out anything like this finished if I didnt have a sensible architect and a competent GC on the job.  The biggest hurdle for me was opening up the budget to become a bigger job, accepting that I wasnt seasoned enough to do this “on the cheap” and still get results that I would like to live with.  In the end, the professional fees were more than offset by savings, efficiency and good ideas (thank you, BParc!).  If I had done this first project myself I would have paid more to get less; all the architects I spoke with made some form of this argument …  and I have learned how they’re right.

You are doing a great job.  I am going through a similar project at the moment and am a bit jealous you are so far ahead and managed to build something so click and beautiful.  Do you have link to higher resolution pictures?  I want to see this kitchen closer.  Did work with a contracting firm or were you your own general contractor?  Did you have to upgrade electrical and heating?  Any good recommendations?  No problem if you are still working on the house and can’t recommend anyone yet.
