opinions needed on kitchen range configuration
I would appreciate opinions on my kitchen dilemma. When we bought our house it came with a 36″ gas professional range that is 16 years old. It is not vented to the outside so we don’t use the grill on the range unless we want a smokefest. What would you do? Since there is no simple fix, I am considering many options: 1) replace the range with a 30″ width range and 30″ non-vented hood and replace the surrounding cabinets and counter so they fit the new range. 2) keep the current range and install a hood to the outside so we can properly use it. If we replace the range at some point, it would need to fit the hood (36″) which means $$. 3) replace the current range with another 36″ range that does not have a grill and can be used without the venting to the outside. Is it worth going with 36″ ranges that are not high end? 4) replace the current range with a gas cooktop, expand the kitchen space and install an electric wall oven. Worth it? Thanks.

A non-vented hood does almost nothing, in my experience.

36″ ranges is common place you should add 36″ vented hood. Replacing range with 30″ one and fitting all the cabinets is definitly a bad idea.

Either put in the hood, suggested if you actually cook or just get a new range to fit. You do not need to go high end to get a good range, in fact you may be happier.
