hood & vent pipe install
hello all, i am so frustrated. I need my vent pipe installed from the wall to the hood and cabinet cut out etc. My contractor will not do it (he’s a wimp). The cabinet installers wanted to charge me $500 to do it. and The appliance store will only do the hood intall not the pipe or the cabinets. So is there some one out there with some fortitude and earnest willing to work. I am getting all the necessary pieces tuesday morning. Please let me know, thanks all.

If you don’t have it, definitely buy the right size hole saw to avoid any damage to the cabinets. You should be able to swap the arbor from whatever size you have, just bring it with you to make sure. Home Depot carries up to 6″ dia.

Try obtaining a Lenox hole saw for the correct dimension (4 1/2″?) for 4″ stove pipe. It will take a while to make the cut, but the results should be perfect. Drill 1/2 to 3/4 of the way thru, then drill the rest from other side to avoid chipping. I don’t like the Sawzall idea, I would use a jig saw if I had to. Obviously this is more easily done with cabinet off wall on a work bench.

Putnamdenize i am going to do the pipe myself in the am. I’ll ask my friend to help me with the hole. this is just absurd, though this contractor has wimped out on sooooo many things. I’ll post the review of his work at the end I dont want to do it while he is in my house.

Sounds like something you could do yourself. That is often how I deal with small projects which don’t seem to to be of interest to professionals. Use a drill to put holes in the cabinet, then a “sawzall”to cut the hole. Use the pipe to create the pattern. (Warning often times my first attempts at a new task aren’t pretty – which may be a reason to hire your cabinetry people!)

it was literally from the top of the cabinet to the top of the hood. the bit of pipe and cutting the hole. and they would not hard wire it . so again Does any one who could do it?

$500 was a cheap quote for all of the different skill sets involved. Especially the one where they don’t hack at your new cabinets and damage them. Go back to your cabinet installer and tell him you’ve had a change of heart and want the expert in cabinet alterations to do it..
