Combo washer/dryer for tenant apartment
The rental market (for landlords) is pretty soft in my neighborhood, so I’m considering some upgrades to one of my rental apartments once it opens up next year. I’d like to put in a washer/dryer, but given the size wanted to go with something smaller than a pair of standard ones. Has anyone had experience with any of the combo washer/dryers, or, ideally, the combo ventless washer/dryer? LG makes a couple, as well as companies called EdgeStar and Summit, both of whom I’ve never heard of. They cost about a grand on average, and might be a good fit for my one-bedroom apts.

I too had the ventless (220 v) Bosch units (two, not one) and though the dryer did take longer than a full size one, it did the job well. I also allowed the tenants to use them.

I had a ventless, stackable Bosch unit in my old apartment and it was convenient. The dryer took quite a while, but other than that I had no complaints. We were only there a couple years, so I can’t speak to longevity.

If you mean the single unit washer that is also a dryer, not a stack of two units, don’t get it. We originally made the same choice for a rental to split the difference between a linen closet and a laundry closet — some laundry, some storage. the combo units are high maintenance and take forever to complete the dry cycle. In some ways, less efficient use of time for laundry than schlepping around the corner to a laundromat. Either get a real washer and a real dryer or don’t get it. Definitely an amenity that will keep a good tenant longer, and allow a slight premium that will pay for itself. If venting is too hard, get a ventless dryer but wire it so you can get a 220 dryer, which dries much faster than a ventless 110. W/D most convenient if you can keep washing loads while the previous one dries.

I’ve supplied compact stackables for 30 years. Regardless of the brand, they only last 7 years or so – & I’m certain that one tenant in particular is extremely careful about maintenance so it’s inherent to the units. Ergo, I just go for whatever I can find at a best price.
