clawfoot tub removal?
We recently purchased a 2-family 1910 building in Ridgewood, Queens, and need to remove the clawfoot tub from the rental unit bathroom in order to renovate. The contractor wants to break it into pieces and junk it (not sure how he plans to break apart a cast iron tub but he says he can do it). It’s not in great shape, but can probably be restored, and I hate to just destroy it. Can anyone recommend a service that would come and remove it (and preferably buy it for resale)? I would love for it to find a new life in someone else’s home. Thanks!

What condition is it in? You can remove the tub from the bathroom and then move it back again after the renovation is complete (if you’re not rebuilding the floor, you don’t even have to remove it, just move it around). If it won’t fit through the door, you can take the door off the hinges, the feet off the tub, even temporarily enlarge the door, etc., to get it in and out. They are very heavy, and you will probably need three strong men to get it out the door, but one of our contractors was able to move ours around the bathroom all by himself to put in new walls.
