What do we need to clean out our yard?

We are getting ready to move into townhouse this week and have a very overgrown back yard in the need of some love and clearing.  We think our very short term plan is to hire a couple of day laborers to clear it out so by Spring we will have a plan and money for sprucing it up.  What tools do we need so day laborers/us can clean out the yard? I don’t belive there is anything substantial hiding back there but weeds, over grown bushes and existing yard debris.  There are some plants back there I do want to keep.

Imortant to cover the bare earth with black plastic… The heat build up will kill off some of the weed seed as well as prevent regrowth.   You never know what lies below the surface.  Be ready for just about anything.

A hoe, a fork, a couple shovels, a rake and a box of contractor bags should do it.  Get a roll of landscape fabric and cover the ground once you are done, so you don’t have to start over at the end of September. If you have plants you want to save, you should hire a gardener, because you can’t expect a day laborer to pick and choose between weeds and perennials (unless you know what you have and will supervise.)
