New Super Graffiti?
The glass on our front door was tagged last night. It looked sort of like spray paint so we bought two different cans of graffiti paint remover thinking it would come right off (especially with glass). Much to our dismay, neither graffiti removal formula had much of an effect on this stuff at all. We even tried lighter fluid. We’ve used rags, paper towels, an abrasive pad and a new flat razor blade. Nothing has really worked. It’s almost as if whatever the SOB used had a strong acid component and the glass has been slightly etched! Does this sound familar to anyone and/or do any of you know what might work in this situation? Thanks.

For paint, I would try using “Goof Off”. I paint as well, and this gets paint (including spray paint) off of EVERYTHING! If it was etching cream, you will need to do what thetinkerswag said above. An etched tag has a white/greyish color that remains after you clean it. For preventative measures to your glass moving forward, you can also get a very thin film to go over your glass (almost unnoticable) that you can remove if you ever get hit again.. Good luck!

ok, I am not sure how valuable your glass is, but let’s say it is beveled and nice and you want to repair it. there is a company that can remove the scratches by buffing the glass, first with abrasive paper and then with some compound made up with a product called cerium (spelling may be off). I have tried it with little success as the true way to do this is with specialized equipment, the proper felt wheels, and a continuous flow of water to keep the glass from over heating (and cracking). We found a company to do this by using google. Sorry to hear about this as it sounds really nasty. Steve

Not to answer my own question, but after further research it appears my guess as to the nature of the graffiti was right on target. It looks exactly like the tag in this video which was acid etched. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpvacuW3wqo

I’m aware of that, but I find it hard to believe that it’s being used for graffiti as I assume it’s dangerous to work with especially in an uncontrolled environment like the public sidewalks of NYC!. However, I have no other explanation for this ‘super graffiti’

there is such a think as etching acid for glass and metal. Steve
