Seeking experienced someone to build metal pipe twin bed — or modify Restoration Hardware bed.   I love this bed: http://www.rhbabyandchild.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=rhbc_prod373126&cm_ps=modal_add_to_cart-_-none-_-other_items_you_may_like&categoryId=rhbc_cat206019 But I’d like to change the height (so that there’s storage room underneath and no box spring needed). Anyone know someone who could either recreate this or securely modify the Restoration Hardware one? (RH says it comes pre-threaded and semi-assembled, so couldn’t unthread and move the bottom portion.) I’d rather not DIY this as it’s for my active young son who will use it as a jungle gym, so must be rock-solid and safe.

Thanks, I did call RH and they said none of the components could be changed. If this were a coffee table, I might try DIY, but it’s my kid’s bed, so rather not experiment. Also the side rails aren’t piping.

I just looked at the PDF installation document and it is not something you can DIY. I would contact DH and see if that bottom section of pipe with the cap (leg) can be removed and replaced with a longer piece.

Looks like galvanized plumbing pipe available at any home improvement store or plumbing supply house. They might have some proprietary decorative painted finish but I can’t tell from the photo. You can buy the bed and then remove the bottom section of each leg and replace it with a longer piece of pipe oR you can find someone to knock off the entire design. If you want to save a few hundred dollars you might DIY. Have you looked on line for furniture “hack” web sites that duplicate RH’s designs? I know there is one for their dining room tables that provides the exact measurements.
