Distressing Furniture

I have a piece of unpainted furniture that I would like to finally have finished.  I’m looking for the distressed look.   Can anyone recommend someone?

distressing wood is a really fun DIY project…  look up some youtube tutorials, and find some wood to experiment on first. (pine board are great, becausxe it’s soft, so it’ll let you hone your technique, plus it’s cheap. There are literally hundreds of methods, but what i’ve found to be good are beating up the wood with flat hammers, throw some chains at it, etc….   then create pock holes with screw drivers, etc.   Apply a few thin base coats of gray if painting, or a water based white wash if staining, then sand and salt.   salting is literally washing with salt water – let it get into the wood.  This will create uneven paint and stain penetration from your final coats, which is what you want       Then paint your color or stain of choice.  When dry, beat and sand it some more – the gray base coats/ white wash will peek out through the main color.  You want to start off with heavier beatings, but then mellow out to steel wool, as you approach your final coats (all thin, i should add) – you want it to look aged, not give you splinters. That’s just my approach – there are many many others – pick what feels right to you.  Some people have a lot more artistry involved, and much less beating up of the wood..   others go to the extreme and create a sand pit/salt box out in the yard and bury the piece they want to age for a few months… lol. its a fun weekend DIY, and easy to pick up – just get a few practice boards first and settle on a technique you’re comfortable with to get the results you want.
